i recently bought a soundblaster audigy to replace my standard asus soundcard and had nothing but trouble getting it to work. it played music but pretty much none of the software worked which is what i bought it for. the only thing i could set was the EAX effects and that was it. so i then replaced that with an X-Fi Xtreme Audio which was equally as bad.

Again none of the software works and after reinstalling drivers some of it just doesnt show up. these are drivers from the creative website that actualy say its windows 7 64bit compatible what im trying to get working is this:

i have nothing like this, no equalizer or mixer settings. all i have is the audio control panel which doesnt nothing except for EAX effects could someone advice me on how to get the equalizer working or a soundcard that actually works for around £40

well you told me to go for x-fi, i assumed there wouldn't be much difference between audio and music



EDIT: oh snap i think ive got everything working. after manual deleting registry edits! and reinstalling the same drivers and software i now have full control over my sound and 5.1 instead of 4.1 anyway hopefully it will all work now

BTW - There is a huge difference between X-Fi Xtreme Audio and an X-Fi Xtreme Gamer/Music.

For a start the Xtreme Audio isn't really an X-Fi, its a re-badged Audigy.

Dunno why people have this hatred of Creative.

It's the whole 'Vista' thing again, they had a period of making shitty drivers and problems, and then all of a sudden all their products are crap and shouldn't be touched in case thy give you AIDS or some shit.

I've not had a single problem with my last few Creative cards (Audigy 2, Xtreme Audio PCI-E, X-Fi Gamer), all have worked flawlessly in XP, Vista, and Win7.

And tbh, I prefer the Creative drivers over the ASUS ones, which get updated even more rarely than Creative.

Is that because they work?

TBH they both work for the most part, just as much as any driver ever 'fully works'.

When I had the D1 I had a few bugs (can't remember what they were now), but by the time I sold it 6 months later they still hadn't been addressed, and their had been no driver updates the entire time I owned the card (people were actually modding the D2 drivers to use on their D1's as they were newer and fixed some of the more annoying issues).

The X-Fi's are mature enough now to have good drivers, they've been out ages. They only started getting bad press when Creative farked up the Vista drivers for them, and then took an age to get them sorted out.

By the time Vista SP1 came out they were all fine and dandy (much like most other Vista drivers), but the damage was done and since then everyone hates Creative.

When back in XP days they could do no wrong and you were an r'tard if you didn't have a Creative card in your gaming PC.

I ditched my Creative card for the reasons above, however I've no issj00s with the ASUS D1
