SAN JOSE, Calif. - March 8, 2010 - Cisco will host a live media, blogger and industry analyst webcast Tuesday, March 9, at 8:00 a.m. (PST) to make a significant announcement that will forever change the Internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and governments.

Direct from their own press release. They certainly seem sure of whatever it is they have.

Starts in 50 minutes, you need to sign up to see it live.

Although TCP/IP has proven to be remarkably robust, it may not scale to the future. In particular, TCP/IP does not know how to differentiate between traffic priorities

Quote:
There are also security issues with TCP/IP, with researchers warning of vulnerabilities that need to be addressed. In April 2004, a major alert was issued to deal with a fundamental vulnerability.

Quote:
Users of large scale sites are already experiencing problems with the protocol, which tends to suggest that ordinary users will become affected in the near future, as bandwidth and processing availability continues to grow.

Conclusion

The efforts to change TCP/IP must continue, and in the medium term appear to need to take on additional momentum. The efforts need to be considered in the light of other major protocol problems, so that a more coherent approach to protocol reform or replacement emerges.

It's the CRS-3, ISP level routers. Does 322 Terabits/second, up from 92 Terabits/second of what is currently being used.

$90,000 a pop

Google is going to be using them in select cities where they are rolling out their 100mb lines.

Sucks that it'll be another 10 years before anywhere near those speeds roll out across the US.

FiOS and AT&T's U-Serve are only in select cities as well.

I think the Fastest service in the UK at the moment is Virgin Media Fibre to the Node service, 50mbits.

Don't know how much of the UK is covered, although apparently according to their postcode checker our house is covered for 50mbit, and plympton is a pretty small place at the bottom of the UK where some people still point at planes.

EDIT: I think BT is doing some 100mb fibre trials in a couple posh newly built housing estates.
